Opportunities for Funding

The BoatUS Foundation Grassroots Grants Program provides grants to nonprofit organizations, boating clubs and student groups for projects that promote safe and/or clean boating.

The National Grassroots Organizing Program (NGO) offers two-year flexible, general operating support grants of up to $30,000 per year, with an average grant size of $20,000 per year, to small, non-profit grassroots constituent-led grassroots organizations throughout the United States and its territories.

The focus of the NGO program is to support grassroots activists working in their communities to achieve clearly defined social and environmental justice objectives. We are inspired by the Civil Rights legend John Lewis’ admonition: “Speak up, speak out, get in the way. Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.”

While we recognize the importance of direct service programs for those impacted by poverty and inequity, our priority is to support grassroots organizing activities that address the causes of those inequities. Therefore, we will not consider requests to support direct services to individuals.

We understand the importance of effective medical equipment in providing the best care for owned and adoptable pets. Veterinary Medical Equipment Grants provide financial support to nonprofit animal organizations and local/state government agencies to purchase veterinary medical equipment for on-site animal shelter veterinary clinics, low-cost veterinary practices, mobile veterinary units, disaster relief vehicles, etc.

Applications are accepted quarterly in February, May, August, and November and awards are announced the following month.

We are here to help our nonprofit partners assist pets in need when — not if — the next disaster strikes. Disaster Relief Grants provide financial support to nonprofit animal organizations and local/state government agencies whose communities have suffered the impact of natural or other disasters.

Helping to provide affordable and accessible veterinary care, Community Care Grants provide funding and medical supplies to nonprofit organizations and local/state government agencies that deliver veterinary care to owned pets through on-site, mobile, or pop-up clinics.

Applications are accepted quarterly in January, April, July, and October and awards are announced the following month.

Our Care Knows No Boundaries (CKNB)® grants enable veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians to remove the geographic barriers that keep pets from receiving much-needed care. Any veterinarian or certified veterinary technician within any Mars business segment in the United States is eligible to apply for funding to assist with travel expenses in the form of a CKNB grant. This grant enables global volunteer work that supports Mars Petcare’s purpose of A Better World for Pets.

Asterion Foundation™ provides microgrants for astronomy research and outreach projects throughout the United States. Asterion supports schools, universities, libraries, planetaria, observatories, museums and science clubs. Grants typically range between $500 and $5,000. Some awards are partial grants for lead sponsorship, matching fundraisers and finishing funds.

By their own initiative, past and present directors of the foundation have propelled special outreach programs such as the distribution of free solar eclipse glasses and the 50th Anniversary Apollo Moon Landing poster contest for students. Your organization can also apply to fund projects such as these. Do you have a project that we can help lift off?

Many of our previous grant recipients have been involved in the topic of meteoritics, such as meteorite exhibits at museums, all-night meteor camera detectors (CAMS), and paleo-astronomy through the study of microtektites in fossilized mollusks. In 2019, our directors voted to make the area of meteoritics our chief interest. However, we will gladly review other applications pertaining to astronomy research and outreach.

This program helps eligible communities prepare, or recover from, an emergency that threatens the availability of safe, reliable drinking water.

The purpose of this program is to provide loan funding to finance power generation projects for Renewable Energy Resource (RER) systems or Energy Storage Systems (ESS) that support RER projects. The program goal is to support clean, affordable energy growth across the country through loans to eligible entities with varying levels of loan forgiveness for projects that generate and/or store electricity from RER.

Awards may be used to finance wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, or biomass renewable energy projects. Energy storage projects related to a renewable energy project are also eligible.

Applicants are encouraged to consider projects that will advance the following key priorities:

Assisting rural communities to recover economically through more and better market opportunities and through improved infrastructure
Ensuring all rural residents have equitable access to programs offered by the funding agency and benefits from funded projects
Reducing climate pollution and increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change through economic support to rural communities
Projects must be based on bankable power purchase agreements (PPAs) or through a financial guarantee that ensures the financial feasibility of the project. Energy must be sold for resale to eligible off-takers that may include both utility and non-utility customers. The technologies used must be commercially available.

The CY 2022 Disaster Water Grants Program is designed to assist communities by awarding grant funds to qualified entities for expenses related to water infrastructure systems in designated areas that were impacted by events that occurred during CY 2022 and were recognized through Presidentially Declared Disasters. In addition to damage repairs, these grants are also intended to develop system capacity and resiliency in order to reduce or eliminate long-term risks from future events. Water infrastructure systems include drinking water, wastewater, solid waste, and stormwater projects serving eligible communities. Adequate documentation must be provided to demonstrate impacts to the water infrastructure systems.

Eligible applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

(a) Be either a Public Body, an organization operated on a not-for-profit basis, a tribe, or a prefabricated home organization operating an eligible community-based system. Non-tribal applicants proposing to serve tribes and tribal areas should have the support of those tribes either in the form of a Tribal Resolution and/or letter of support for the project impacting their communities.

(b) Be eligible to receive and administer a Federal grant under Federal law.

(c) Each applicant must:

(1) Have or will obtain the legal authority necessary for owning, constructing, operating, and maintaining the facility or service to be repaired or replaced and for issuing security for the proposed grant;

(2) Be responsible for operating, maintaining, and managing the facility, and providing for its continued availability and use at reasonable user rates and charges; and

(3) Retain this responsibility even though the facility may be operated, maintained, or managed by a third party under contract or management agreement.

(d) Demonstrate that they possess the technical, managerial, and financial capability necessary to consistently comply with pertinent Federal and State laws and requirements.

(e) Have no delinquent debt to the federal government or no outstanding judgments to repay a federal debt.
