Community Champions Program

COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS PROGRAM

Each year, 12 individuals will gain tailored capacity building, leadership training, peer learning and support through a cohort approach through regular online meetings (total 4 hours/month). Anyone working on environmental or energy justice issues in their community is encouraged to apply. Participants will be compensated $25/hour. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Please check back in early 2024 for more details or contact us if interested.

Student Internships

STUDENT INTERNSHIPS

Students will gain hands-on environmental and energy justice experience from a site in their community with the mentorship of a site supervisor. Students will be required to work a minimum of 180 hours. They can work full-time or part-time and remotely, as determined by the student and the site supervisor. We expect most students to complete their experience over a summer but they do have a year to complete after funds are distributed. Students will receive $5,000 for completion of the internship. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Please check back in early 2024 for more details or contact us if interested.

Advocacy Trainings and Resources

ADVOCACY TRAININGS AND RESOURCES

We will develop training and materials so organizations can translate their knowledge and experiences into environmental and energy justice action. Topics will likely include: partnerships (e.g., formalizing partnership agreements); and capacity-building (e.g., building strong and equitable community advisory boards). We will also create templates and protocols for program participants to nominate themselves and others for local and national committees and to participate during public commenting periods. Please check back in early 2024 for more details or contact us if interested.

Research Study Design and Statistics

RESEARCH STUDY DESIGN AND STATISTICS

We can help your group identify environmental and energy justice needs and challenges in your community through advice on research questions, designing a study, assisting with regulatory requirements (e.g., human subjects) or identification of analytical laboratories, developing sampling protocols and surveys, training data collectors, statistical analyses, and interpreting results and reporting them.

Mapping Environmental and Energy Justice Data

MAPPING ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY JUSTICE DATA

Our team can analyze mapped data about environmental health, climate change risk, and environmental and energy justice (e.g., EJScreen). We can work with your group to use these results for reports, advocacy projects, or grants, and possibly develop into trainings.
