Virtual Kickoff

In June of 2023, we received $10 million in EPA funding to operate our Center, for five years, to provide free assistance to communities so they can move towards environmental, energy, and climate justice throughout Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawai’i, and the US Affiliated Pacific Islands, including federally and non-federally recognized Native American tribes and Indigenous communities in this area.

To get the word out about the Center across our service area, we co-hosted a virtual kickoff event on January 24th, 2024, along with Public Health Institute’s Dialogue for Health team in both English and Spanish language.  Over 160 community members from across the entire area and beyond heard from Center director, Dr. Paloma Beamer, who is an interim Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Professor at The University of Arizona Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. She gave a brief background on Center services, which include: grants navigation; student internships, professional leadership opportunities, trainings, resources, and technical expertise. Participants then joined small group discussions to talk with Center staff about how they could work with the Center and what support would be most helpful.

Thank you to everyone who joined our virtual kickoff! We enjoyed talking with you and hearing how we can best support you in your work.
